Along with the release of his official ‘debut solo album’ (A loose term, considering his solo project, SECRET MOMMY, has been releasing albums for 6 years), The Mice Of Mt. Career, comes this split 7” with fellow solo artist and close friend, Montag.
Side A is a song composed by both artists via internet ‘ping pong’ titled Husbands. It’s an interesting mesh of two opposing outlooks. Montag’s disposition is as sunny as a day at the beach, while Dixon’s is doused in dourness. This contrast creates a beautifully unsettling tension; as bittersweet as it is stern, like a schizophrenic Sonny & Cher.
Montag’s synth, voice, and violin treatment wash over the track, creating the space for Dixon’s claustrophobic vocals and Joy Division bass guitar to inhabit.
Side B is an original song by each artist individually. This creates a reference point for anyone who is unfamiliar with the artists. Although it’s possible that they have rubbed off on each other mildly, since Dixon’s track seems unusually optimistic, and Montag’s is uncannily sour.
